News | Reserve Round up

Although the boys had no game last Saturday they actually improved their title chance as their closest rivals dropped points. Leaders Blackstones only managed a draw at mid table S&L so if our boys win their game in hand they would top.

Our home fixture against Raunds was called off late on Thursday evening due to internal problems at Kiln Park. The League appears to have given them time to resolve their issues which we hope will enable them to complete their fixtures.

Of the trailing pack only Bourne, who we had thrashed 8-0 the previous week, played beating Wellingborough 1-0. This midweek they play fifth placed Deeping whilst we make the short trip to Huntingdon. Huntingdon came from behind to draw 3-3 at Rowley Park earlier in the season, so our lads will be out for revenge, with the prize being top place in the league.

Saturday see’s the Reserves in local derby cup action as we entertain Town rivals Eynesbury Rovers in the semi final of the Scott Gatty Cup. For most this fixture between the two clubs is the real local derby with a number of the Rovers players and management team having played for the Saints, in the past. Although Rovers lost their last league match against St Ives 7-0 is alleged that their opponents strengthened their line up by including several first team players. They are currently eighth in Reserves Division 2 with 17 points from 14 matches.

The Reserves have attracted good attendances throughout the season, so although Rovers first team is at home we so no reason why Saturdays clash shouldn't attract a couple of hundred spectators.
