News: Preview: Rothwell Corinthians

The Saints are looking forward to completing just their second match since 12th December when they make the trip to Rothwell Corinthians this evening. The match gives the lads an early opportunity to take the top spot away from Daventry Town although they will need 3 points to do so.

Rothwell have, like ourselves, improved on last season’s showing when they finished bottom with 14 points. They avoided relegation as Potton’s   ground was deemed not to meet the Leagues grading requirements. When we met at Rowley Park last October we struggled to a 2-2 draw, in a match that epitomised our season, we hit the woodwork 3 times! The return fixture had to be played twice as the initial match at Sergeants Lawn, which was to be Marvin Johnson’s last game in charge of the Saints, was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch with the match at stalemate. When the match was eventually played we ran out 5-3 winners having led and then trailed 3-1 at half time before Chris Johnson inspired hat trick sealed the three points.

On team news, we are likely to have Liam Harrold and Dan French fit again from injuries sustained in the victory at Blackstones. Tony Scully is also expected to play despite picking up an injury during last week’s friendly with Soham. There is also the possibility that Luke Knight may make a return to the squad having come through the Soham friendly and last weekend’s reserve victory over Bourne.
