This was taken on the day that the Saints won the Metropolitan League and League Cup Double at the end of the 1949/50 season. The final was played at West Hams stadium which at that time had a capacity of 100,000. We beat Chingford 2-0 with goals coming from Les Smith and Alwyn Bellamy the only pre-war Saint still playing at the club. Having won the Cup news came through soon after the match that Callenders had failed in their attempt for the 12 goals they needed for a decimal point lead over St Neots, so the League was won on goal difference.
